10 Things About Me

It's been a BUSY week here, but I promised myself I'd be a better blogger so I'm tackling an easy topic this week- Myself! Here are 10 things you may not know about me...

1. I love video games. Racing games are my favorite. It was a very sad day when I realized that all three of my kids can outplay me on most (but they do get significantly more practice than I do!)

2. If there was a career path for professional student, I'd be on it. I love school and learning. One of the things I love so much about photography is that there is always something new to learn - from video to drone photography to shooting film and learning new editing techniques - you could spend a lifetime and not master all of it.

3. I had only been dating my husband for 4 months when we decided to get married (but I had known him for a year). I was 21.

4. I am completely deaf in my right ear as a result of Meniere's disease. It is a neurological/audiological disease that causes vertigo and tinnitus (and eventually deafness.) If I had to lose one of my senses, that would have been the one I would have chosen!

5. I have a chinchilla named Princess Booger (Boo) who will turn 20 this May.

6. My "work experience" runs quite a gamut. Aside from the typical food service and retail, I've also sold cars, designed websites, worked in event planning and donor relations, been in charge of graduate admissions, typed transcriptions for a non-profit, and taught preschool and elementary school. I worked for several years as a vet tech with a doctor who expected his staff to do everything so in a pinch I could neuter your cat too. In addition to photography, I work for an accounting office preparing taxes from February- April and I substitute teach a few times a month. Photography is my favorite thing I've ever done by leaps and bounds.

7. I love succulents. I brought a bunch with me from California and acquired more here. I probably have over 50. Don't tell my husband.

8. I hate pants. I would live in dresses if I could. And flip flops too because I also hate socks.

9. I am an aggressive advocate for sunscreen and hats and umbrellas. I've had three MOHS surgeries to remove infiltrative basal cells and more spots cut and burned than I can count. 

10. Although my younger Bud-Light drinking self would be horrified, I love a good craft beer. One of our favorite date activities is spending an afternoon at a local brewery. We're so lucky to have so many here!

11. I enjoy taxidermy. My husband does not. My favorite piece features three baby raccoons sitting on a log. My husband was kind enough to add some mood lighting.
